Kyle Almoney (born June 16, 1979 in
York, Pennsylvania ) is an All-Americanswimmer and current head coach of theMillersville University women's swim team. He has been the head coach since 2006.Early life
Kyle Michael Almoney was born to Byron Almoney and Georgia Shaffer Almoney in
York, Pennsylvania . He did not start swimming until he was a teenager, but picked it up quickly while swimming for local teams. He attended Northeastern High School where he emerged as a highly talented swimmer, breaking several records and winningPIAA state swimming titles. He was the 100 yard butterfly PIAA champion in Class AA in 1997. He briefly attendedMercersburg Academy his junior year, but returned to Northeastern. Unfortunately, he was unable to compete in scholastic competition due to his age. He was nineteen and at the time, this made him ineligible to compete in PIAA sports. This rule has since been changed. He graduated from Northeastern in 1999. [4]College
Kyle attended
West Chester University on a swimming scholarship while majoring in communications. As a member of the Golden Rams swim team, he was a 24-time All-American. He also broke several records and is the current 200 yard butterfly record holder. He wasPSAC rookie of the year in 2000. He competed from 1999-2003, and graduated in 2004 with a B.A. in communications. After graduation, Kyle was an assistant swim coach at
Widener University , from 2003-2004 and also an assistand coach at Trident Swim Club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He served as head coach of the Lancaster YMCA swim team from 2005-2006 and coached there through 2007. In the fall of 2006, Kyle was named head coach at Millersville University for the women's swim team. He led the Marauders to their first ever undefeated season in the 2006-2007 season. In the 2007-2008 season, Kyle led the team to another prosperous season with a 5-4 record. He also started an age group swim program, Marauder Aquatic Club, at the university that competes under USS guidelines and in the Central Penn Aquatic League (CPAL). [1]Personal life
Kyle is engaged to former swimmer and current teacher and swim coach Jillian Beck. She coaches at the Lancaster YMCA and is the daughter of Steve Beck, the
Hempfield High School swim coach. She swam for Hempfield andEast Stroudsburg University . Kyle's mother, Georgia Shaffer, is a prominent speaker and life coach who travels all over the United States. After a battle with cancer and divorce from Kyle's father, Byron, she has been helping people cope with loss and hardship. Byron remarried, and he and wife Dawn had Kyle's half-sister Megan.
