The first Parkroyal hotel opened in
Melbourne ,Australia in 1962.In 1986, the world's first Parkroyal Saigon Floating Hotel with 186 rooms was built by Bethlehem Shipyard in Singapore and anchored in Queensland, Australia in 1987. The hotel was later towed across the
Great Barrier Reef to the Saigon River inVietnam and operated there till 1997. Parkroyal Saigon returned to Vietnam in January 2008 and this time as the first atrium style hotel .Parkroyal is one of the hotel chains that uses forefront information technology. In 1999, Parkroyal is one of the first hotel chain in the world to use the
SAP R3 ERP and FCS Winsuite software for its hotels. In 2002, Parkroyal is the first hotel chain in Malaysia to use the Micros Fidelio Opera Property Management System and Material Control system.On January, 18, 2000, Bass Hotels & Resorts purchased the Southern Pacific Hotels Corporation (SPHC) from the
Pritzker family. SPHC managed or franchised 59 hotels throughout the Asia pacific. These included 24 hotels in Australia, 13 hotels inNew Zealand , 8 in the Southern Pacific Islands and 14 in the rest ofAsia . SPHC owned, leased, managed or franchised hotels under the name Parkroyal and Centra. In 2002,UOL Group subsidiary Hotel Plaza Limited purchased the naming right of Parkroyal from Six Continents.Parkroyal Hotels & Resorts Pte Ltd became the wholly owned subsidiary and hotel management arm of Hotel Plaza Limited
