The International Award Association began in May 1988.
In the 1980s
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award was operating on a national basis, through National Award Authorities (NAAs), in over 30 countries and the process of forming an International Award began. In May 1988, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award International Association was formally constituted to act as a means for discussion and communication between members.The International Award Association programme runs in over 100 countries. The programme runs under a number of different titles in some countries, for example "The President's Award" or the "National Youth Achievement Award" in Singapore. More specific national titles are also used, for instance: Premio Infante D.
