Divided into three eight-day sessions, the program offers hands-on workshops, seminars and guest lectures. Students choose their top three subjects from the following five: television studio, radio, video field production, film, and nonlinear editing. Sessions run Monday morning through Friday afternoon. Friday afternoons are devoted to single-topic seminars on writing, directing or producing. During the week, late-afternoon guest lectures by industry professionals offer further insight into careers in advertising, broadcast journalism and public relations.Site visits to professional workplaces give students an up-close perspective on how media professionals pursue their craft. "Film" – Film introduces students to single-camera film production in the traditional "Hollywood" film style. Students create and produce two 16mm black and white, non-synchronous film projects.
"Video Field Production" – Video Field Production presents disciplines and techniques of Electronic Field Production (
EFP ) andElectronic News Gathering (ENG) style productions. Students learn story development, writing, producing, directing, shooting, sound recording and editing. They create news stories, features, documentary profiles, interviews and commercials. Selected projects are incorporated into Commonwealth Connections, a half-hour news program."Television Studio" - Television Studio blends theory and practical application in the studio and control room environment. Students direct a multi-camera, live-to-tape episode of the interview program “Studio East,” as well as function in each crew and talent capacity. The final project is a short format production, determined by the group, which is either shot in the single-camera, film or multi-camera style.
"Radio" - Radio allows students to create and operate a radio station, culminating in a three-hour Web cast with students performing every role. Instruction covers format programming, news and spot production, field and studio recording environments and audio editing with
Pro Tools ."Non-linear Editing" - Non-Linear Editing presents the dynamics of digital post-production. Working in ITRP’s media labs, students learn how to edit video and audio using
