Zilch Cliffs (coord|74|58|S|134|55|W|) is a series of steep
cliff s that mark the east extremity ofMcDonald Heights near the coast ofMarie Byrd Land . The cliffs were photographed from aircraft ofUnited States Antarctic Service (USAS), 1939-41, and were mapped in detail fromU.S. Navy air photos andUnited States Geological Survey (USGS) surveys, 1959-65. Named byAdvisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Lieutenant CommanderC.H. Zilch , U.S. Navy, Officer-in-Charge of the meteorological support unit duringOperation Deep Freeze 1966.
