- Paninternational
Paninternational was a Charter Airline from Germany that operated between 1969 and 1972.
History
Paninternational began its life as Germania Fluganlage GmbH but even before it began flight operations had to change its name to PANAIR because
Germanair filed a complaint because both airline could be confused. Operations started in February 1968 using a SE 210 Caravelle. A few months later it received a brand new BAC 1-11-500 for charter flights. But in 1970 the airline was forced to change its name once again from PANAIR to Paninternational, this was because Pan American demanded the change due to the similarity in names. For the summer 1970 charter season, Paninternational received two more BAC 1-11-500s and the operational base was moved from
Dusseldorf toMunich . Then in August 1970 twoBoeing 707 aircraft were bought but they had no permits to operate fromGermany so Paninternational had to lease additional aircraft to meet the demands. The result was that the cost of operating were doubled and the company was losing money. To remedy the situation, more 1-11s were received and things seemed to go well for a while when one of the 1-11s was involved in an accident (see below). As a result of the accident, the tour operators withdrew their support. The 707s (which had not been used) were returned to the seller and most of the 1-11s were grounded. The end came swiftly whe on October 6, 1971 operations were shut down and the airline ceased to exist. [Airlines Remembered by BI Hengi, Publisher Midland Publishing]Fleet

*Narrative: Shortly after take-off from Hamburg both Rolls Royce engines quit. A forced landing was carried out on the Hamburg-Kiel Autobahn E45. The aircraft collided with a bridge, causing both wings to be sheared off. The 1-11 burnt out.
*PROBABLE CAUSE: The water-injection system to cool off the engines during take-off was filled with kerosene instead of water. [ [http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19710906-0 ASN Aircraft accident BAC One-Eleven 515FB D-ALAR Hasloh ] ]External links
