March

March 11

* SS "Sechelt" sank in Strait of Juan de Fuca with the loss of 37 passengers and crew.

March 23

* SS "Yongala" AUS sank off the Whitsunday Islands with the loss of all 122 passengers and crew.

April

April 10

* "Steamer Iroquois" CAN sank in the Strait of Georgia off British Columbia. The ship's cargo, having been poorly stowed, shifted when the vessel encountered a squall. Twenty one people died as a result of the accident and the captain was convicted of manslaughter.

June

June 6

* "Bayard" UK ran aground on South Georgia.

September 25

* "Liberté" FRA exploded in Toulon harbour, causing around 300 deaths.

September 27

* SS "Three Brothers" USA sank off South Manitou Island, all 14 crew saved.

December
