Australian Cinematographers Society
- Australian Cinematographers Society
The Australian Cinematographers Society is an Australian organisation established in 1958 for cinematographers to meet and discuss the issues that affected them. As video became more prevalent in the industry, video cameramen were admitted to the membership.
The ACS was established to:
*Further the advancement of cinematography in all fields and give due recognition to the outstanding work performed by Australian cinematographers.
*Keep members abreast of technology, new equipment and ideas through meetings, seminars and demonstrations.
*Provide a forum for cinematographers to meet with other members of the industry to discuss and exchange ideas, promote friendship and better understanding of each other's industry role.
Its first president was Syd Wood. [ [http://www.cinematographer.org.au/about/history/detailed Wood, Syd "A detailed history of the Australian Cinematographers Society"] ]
The ACS presents awards for achievements in cinematography, including the Golden Tripod (the ACS's highest award for excellence), and the Milli Award to its Cinematographer of the Year.
