John H. Liechty Middle School

John Liechty Middle School is a new Los Angeles middle school opened at the beginning of September of 2007 to help relieve Berendo and Virgil Middle Schools of overcrowding problems.This three-story middle school has classrooms including general studies, science, art, performing arts and library multi media rooms. The school features an instrumental music lab, choral room, dance studio, theatre style instructional classrooms and state of the art computer labs.

School Uniforms

At J.L.M.S. the standard uniform for class(other than P.E) is a light blue shirt with or without the school logo and navy-blue pants. For P.E. Students are required to wear a Gray -shirt and navy blue shorts school or domestic P.E. shorts.

Structure

The school building has three stories. Inside the school there are many series of stairways going to each floor. The School has small murals near major stairways (except the green stairway outside the school). At the main entrance of the school there is a tall stairway. The green-colored stairway goes up to both second and third floors of the buildings. From the Third floor of the green stairway is a great view of Alvarado and on a clear day the Century City skyline is visible, there is also a great view of the School campus and Downtown Los Angeles.

Campus

The school features a great campus. The school has a sate-of-the-art soccer field. The Soceer field reaches in length from the schools main entrance to the small school gate on Valencia Street. The field has two J.LM.S. Logos near mid-field. The field also boasts a drainage system so when it rains the water in the field will drain into the streets. The field also has spotlights for after-school night games and late practice. The campus also features a Multi-Purpose Room for many events. The M.P.R has been used for many things such as School Dances, After-School Programs, P.E activities, and assemblies. The M.P.R. will be used for future culmination ceremonies. The Campus also has an outdoor cafeteria with strong Aluminum roofs. The School Gym is medium-sized. The gym has a school logo in the middle as well as Home and Visitor scoreboard. Lastly the school has many Basket Ball courts that are near the cafeteria, located above the parking structure. The courts are used repeatdley used for P.E. and after-school activities and provide a view of the downtown skyline.

Schedule

On a regular day other than Tuesday, school starts at 8:30am. On a Tuesday, school starts at 9:55 am. On a regular school day (including Tuesday) dismissal is at 3:32pm. On an early dismissal day, dismissal is usually at 1:07pm.

Mascot

During the inaugural year of the school, students voted and chose the Shark as the school's mascot. During the same year, students in each of the four individual Small Learning Communities (SLCs) voted to choose a (shark species-themed) mascot, specific to the SLC which includes: Mako Sharks, Blue Sharks, Silver Tip Sharks, and Speartooth Sharks.
