The Episcopal Day School was established in 1944 by the [http://www.goodshepherd-augusta.org/Welcome.aspx Church of the Good Shepherd] to provide a Christian kindergarten for parish and
neighborhood children to provide child care for Augusta mothers working in the war effort. Through the years, the school grew steadily. In 1962, the Episcopal Day School became the first school in the area to integrate its classes, well before court-orderdesegregation .chools
Preschool
The Episcopal Day Preschool serves children of all faiths from ages 3 to 5 and earned its accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children in 1994. The school offers a high-quality level of education for young children that provides a safe and nurturing environment. EPS is the only school in the Augusta-Aiken metropolitan area to has an accreditation by the NAEYC.
Lower School
Starting in the 1st and 2nd grades, children who attend the Episcopal Day School start studying the Open Court Reading program. This series provides a combination of
phonics instruction, reading comprehension instruction through children's literature, and writing practice through guide lessons on types of writing and using the writing process. The school also encourages student to take oneAdvanced Placement class. Along with taking religious classes, students are required to take Spanish classes starting in the first grade.Middle School
Students are offered to take
