St. Clair and Belle River Power Plants

The Saint Clair Power Plant and Belle River Power Plant are coal-fired power plants owned by Detroit Edison and DTE Energy. They are located in St. Clair County, Michigan along the St. Clair River. The two plants are next to each other in East China, Michigan. In 1954 the St. Clair plant was built, and was one of the world's largest at that time. [cite web

] Since then, it has gone through many renovations and additions. In 1984 the Belle River plant unit one was completed, the second unit was finished in 1985. The Belle River Plant generates 1664.4 mega watts, Detroit Edison's third largest producer of power, and the St. Clair Plant generates 1928.6 mega watts, the second largest producer. ] The two power plants have a large impact on the local economy, employing many residents.

Both plants are connected to the power grid via numerous 345,000 and 120,000 volt transmission lines. The St. Clair Power Plant has two 345KV lines (St. Clair-Lambton #1 and St. Clair-Lambton #2) that interconnect with Hydro One across the St. Clair River in Ontario, Canada.
