The Whitgift Foundation is a charity based in
Croydon ,South London ,England , established in 1596 byJohn Whitgift ,Archbishop of Canterbury , who lived atCroydon Palace . The purpose of the charity is to provide education for the young and care for the elderly. It is a registered charity in England & Wales. Old Palace School ,Trinity School of John Whitgift , andWhitgift School . The foundation provides bursaries and scholarships to those families unable to afford full tuition. The foundation also provided sheltered accommodation and nursing care through theAlmshouses andWhitgift House .The foundation is a major property owner in Croydon including the
freehold of Croham Hurst golf course and the freehold and 25% of the rental income of theWhitgift Centre , Croydon, one of the most successful shopping centres in south-east England.The foundation is governed by a Court of Governors, including the
