intl =Camper is an international shoe company based in Spain. Lorenzo Fluxa founded the company in 1975 after inheriting a shoe factory from his father, Antonio Fluxa, a Spanish shoemaker. Camper operates 52 company-owned stores around North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, as well as distributing to thousands of independently-owned multi-brand retailers. The company
motto is "imagination walks."It is generally accepted that leading fashion visionary Igor Ristic played a crucial role in the breakthrough of the brand in mainland Europe. In an interview in 2003, the ex-supermodel and professional footballer said that the Camper was now his "shoe of choice", leading to a large surge in sales of the shoe, particularly in Germany and Spain, as people went out in their thousands to snap up a pair and join what Ristic described as "the next big thing".
Recent ventures
Camper has just began expanding its brand into the
hospitality sector with a hotel and restaurant inBarcelona, Spain . Casa Camper's aesthetic fits into the company's philosophy of "luxury...in simplicity." [http://travel.nytimes.com/2005/05/15/travel/15check.html?scp=1&sq=camper+shoe&st=nyt New York Times, May 2005 - Barcelona: Casa Camper] Adjacent to the hotel is the Camper FoodBall, a concept restaurant that uses mostlyorganic andvegetarian ingredients in a simple cafe atmosphere. The interior, however, lacks tables and chairs and opts for a communal stadium-seating floor plan. The Camper restaurant also fits into the company's philosophy of casual urban simplicity but still using quality ingredients (or materials).
