BBC Studios was set up as a commercial entity in 1998 as part of BBC Resources Ltd, [cite news|url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/mar/07/bbc.television|title=BBC Resources to be split up|publisher=The Guardian|first=Tara|last=Conlan|date=2008-03-07|accessdate=2008-03-15] providing TV studio facilities at Television Centre in London and Elstree, UK, and employing around 350 staff. The division is being "retained by the Corporation as a commercial business" after failing to find a suitable buyer. BBC Resources was the first of the BBC's commercial business-to-business divisions to be set up as a limited company and is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of the BBC.
