Wasfia Nazreen (born in
Bangladesh ) is a high-profileTibet activist, writer and photojournalist. An outspoken and fierce human-rights advocate- she is the pioneer in merging Bangladesh and Tibet in recent times. She is an entrepreneur who uses art, music, advocacy and passionate activism as her tools to highlight today's Tibetan Freedom Struggle. Currently she is serving as the National Director of Bangladesh Chapter ofStudents for a Free Tibet , a non-profit student-led International organization which uses education, advocacy, and nonviolent direct action with the goal of achievingTibetan independence .Early Years:
Wasfia spent her early years in Khulna, Chittagong, and Dhaka of Bangladesh. She was a student of Prachyanat, acclaimed Theatre School of the country.
Recent Years:
Her profile peaked at the Spring of 2007, when her article "Mcleodganj Clash: A Non-Tibetan's Reflections" caused riots in the Northern Territory of India. It was first published in the Exiled-Tibetan's News Archive [http://www.phayul.com Phayul] . The Indian Authorities asked for her writing to be removed immediately for safety issues, which subsequently got published by numerous Tibet-support groups world-wide.
She co-produced two major concerts to raise awareness on the highly controversial
2008 Summer Olympics and benefit the [http://www.tibetanuprising.org Tibetan People’s Uprising Movement] during and after the2008 Tibetan unrest . Her most recent event featured world-renown artists such asCheb i Sabbah ,Karsh Kale andFreQ Nasty .
