HMP Clink

HMP Clink

HMP Clink was a debtors' prison at 1 Clink Street, London, UK, and is notable for giving its name to the popular slang term for spending time in prison.

The Clink Prison Museum is located on the site of the original Clink Prison which held prisoners from the early Tudor years until 1780. Shakespeare visited an old school friend here. HMP Clink is possibly the oldest men's prison and probably the oldest women's prison in England [ [http://www.london-se1.co.uk/places/clink-prison-museum Clink Prison Museum] ] .
