Lega Nord Emilia

Lega Nord Emilia

Lega Nord Emilia (North League Emilia) is a regionalist Italian political party active in the Emilian part of Emilia-Romagna.

It was founded in the 1980s by Fabio Dosi as Emilian-Romagna League ("Lega Emiliano-Romagnola", thus comprising also Romagna). The party participated to the 1989 European Parliament election as part of the coalition Lega Lombarda – Alleanza Nord. In 1989-1990 it took part in the process of federating the Northern regionalist parties, ahead of the regional elections, taking the current name. Since then it is one of the two regional sections of Lega Nord in Emilia-Romagna, the other being Lega Nord Romagna.

The current national secretary is Angelo Alessandri, who is also federal president of Lega Nord. In the 2008 general election the party elected four deputies (including Alessandri himself and Gianluca Pini, leader of Lega Nord Romagna) and two senators (including the leader of "Extreme South" and Deputy-Mayor of Lampedusa Angela Maraventano). It controls also three seats in the Regional Council of Emilia-Romagna.

Popular support

Lega Nord is much stronger in Emilian provinces than in Romagna: in the 2008 general election it won 14.2% in Piacenza, 11.5% in Parma, 8.5% in Reggio Emilia, 8.9% in Modena, 4.8% in Bologna and 7.7% in Ferrara.

The combined electoral results of Lega Nord Emilia and Lega Nord Romagna in Emilia-Romagna are shown in the table below.
