The kibbutz was founded in January 1949 by a group of North American members of
Hashomer Hatzair called the "Aliyah Hgar'in ". It was built on the site of the depopulated Arab village ofSa'sa' that had previously served as headquarters of theArab Liberation Army , but was occupied by Israeli forces following theBattle of Sasa . As well as agriculture, the kibbutz also has factories manufacturing bulletproof vests and vehicle armour from Kevlar("
