Beniam

Beniam (pronounced Beni-yam) (born 1971) [http://www.helmmagazine.com/online/?p=30] is an Ethiopian fashion designer. He is one of the fashion designers for REP1 clothing line.

Early life and career

Beniam was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He came to New York City in late 1980s. His fashion sense came from his mother; she had a small clothing shop where she sews clothing as well as dresses for neighbourhood women for free. Having a sewing machine at home helped not only him but all of his brothers and sisters to be able to saw, alter and be creative on their cloths as well as their friends clothings.Since coming to New York, he attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, to further develop my knowledge in the fashion industry. Over the years he held numerous fashion shows in NYC and DC areas. He was featured with his brother on one of the Ethiopian top Ethiopian fashion magazines.
