Jean-Paul Bourelly (b. November 23, 1960) is an American
jazz fusion guitarist.Bourelly was born in
Chicago , and both his parents wereimmigrant s fromHaiti . Bourelly sang at theLyric Opera when he was ten years old and learned piano and drums, picking up guitar by age 14. He moved toNew York City in 1979, where he played withMuhal Richard Abrams ,Roy Haynes ,McCoy Tyner , andElvin Jones ; he also had a role in the film "The Cotton Club ", directed byFrancis Ford Coppola . He released his debut solo effort in 1987, and played withMiles Davis in 1988.Bourelly also branched into
rock music , as a member of theBlack Rock Coalition (founded byVernon Reid ofLiving Colour ) and in time spent playing withBuddy Miles ,Robin Trower ,Jack Bruce ,Terry Bozzio , andMatalex . He played withCassandra Wilson on several of her album, and continued to release solo efforts into the 2000s; these have been most successful inJapan .Discography
