"Betrayed" is the second book in the "House of Night" series written by P. C. Cast & Kristin Cast.

Plot introduction

Fledging vampire Zoey Redbird has managed to settle in at the House of Night finishing school. She finally feels like she belongs, even gets chosen as the Leader of the Dark Daughters. Best of all, she actually has a boyfriend... or two. Then the unthinkable happens: Human teenagers are being killed, and all the evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey's old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves. Then, when she needs her new friends the most, death strikes the House of Night, and Zoey must find the courage to face a betrayal that could break her heart, her soul, and jeopardize the very fabric of her world. Betrayed, the second book in the House of Night series, is dark and sexy, and as thrilling at it is utterly shocking.

Plot

Zoey Redbird, vampyre fledgling extraordinaire, begins the book with a battle like no other she's faced before... Parent Visitation Night. Like her gay friend, Damian, she dreads this night and it turns out to be just as bad as she imagined. When her mother and step-father show up, Neferet and her step-father begin a religious argument that results in Neferet forcing him to either be quiet or leave for good. He chooses to leave, taking Zoey's mother, Linda, with him. Leaving the hall to avoid embarrassment, Zoey stumbles across an argument between her arch-enemy Aphrodite and her parents. Zoey feels empathic towards Aphrodite, who has been ordered to gain back her position as leader of the Dark Daughters and Sons by her overcontrolling parents.
