Dr Ann Barker (born August 5, 1945) is the Complaints Commissioner of the Bar Standards Board, a regulator set up by the Bar Council to promote and safeguard the highest standards of legal education and practice in England and Wales. She is also Chairman of the Complaints Audit Committee, an independent inspectorate set up by the UK government to restore public confidence in the immigration and asylum system. A former member of the Parole Board and Police Complaints Authority, Barker is a JP who sits on General Medical Council Fitness to Practise Panels, the Mental Health Review Tribunal, and the appeal panel of the medical Royal Colleges. Personal life
Barker was born in Pasadena, California and educated at Westridge School (Pasadena), Mount Holyoke and Harvard University. On the way to her PhD, she became a Woodrow Wilson scholar and a Harvard graduate prize fellow.
Barker (née Botsford Callender) is descended from the Callenders of Stirlingshire, Scotland and the Botsfords of New Brunswick, Canada (see Amos Botsford and Amos Edwin Botsford, two time speaker of the Canadian Senate).
