Cardross ("Càrdainn Ros" in Gaelic) is a large village in
Scotland , on the north side of theFirth of Clyde , situated halfway betweenDumbarton andHelensburgh . Cardross is in the historic geographical county ofDunbartonshire , but the modern political local authority ofArgyll and Bute . Cardross is also the name of a historic Parish stretching from the west side of Dumbarton to Craigendoran, near Helensburgh, and including the village of Renton in theVale of Leven .Famous Residents

Robert the Bruce is often associated with Cardross in respect of his last years. He died at his manorial house in the Parish of Cardross in 1329, but the exact location is unknown. It is claimed that it was not where the present village lies, but near where Dalmoak Farm now stands, near the River Leven, south of the village of Renton.A. J. Cronin , the celebrated doctor and writer, was born in Cardross in 1896.Cardross today

bowling ,tennis and football clubs. There are also a number of shops, including apost office , anewsagents apharmacy and a newly opened coffee shop. Ardardan Estate [http://ardardan.co.uk] is a working farm, with a farm shop, plant nursery and tea room, and is situated just outside Cardross.Geilston Garden , aNational Trust for Scotland property, is located to the north west of the village. The villiage also has a small plumbing shop.Cardross railway station is on the Drumgelloch-Helensburgh railway line. Cardross station is run by FirstScotRail Ltd.The village has two places of worship: Cardross Parish Church (
Church of Scotland ), and St Mahew's Roman Catholic Church. The original Parish Church was bombed during theSecond World War , and its ruins are located next to theManse .
