Admission
In the past, this school used to have high standards requiring top marks in grade 9 (usually above 80%); however, in recent years admission standards have become more lax thereby admitting a greater number of students than in the past. As a result problems of overcrowding have become apparent and there is a big need to renovate and expand the school.
Reputation
Archbishop MacDonald used to be considered one of the top academic Catholic high schools in the Edmonton school district, and it still is. It is the ranked as the second best high school in Edmonton, after Old Scona Academic, and is 9th place for top school in Alberta.
