Every Dog Has His Day

The 10th book in the Hank the Cowdog book series.

Plot

Starts off with people coming to the ranch to round up the cows. With them they bring Benny, a quick-witted border collie, who Hank takes a disliking to right away. They also bring Miss Scampers, a beagle, who Hank thinks he is in love with. Later on to stop Hank from getting in the way, High Loper, ties him up and Benny takes his place to round up the cows. Hank tries to get Drover to help him but Drover runs away to see Miss Scampers. Pete the local cat then shows up and begins teasing Hank. Hank jumps at Pete over and over again and in the end the rope snaps. Miss Scampers is impressed but she thinks that Benny could do a better job. So Hank stands in the way of the gate to not let anything pass. But when the cows do come through, and his blocking of them makes the humans angry. So Hank runs off, and in the woods he is found by the two coyotes Rip and Snort, the two turkey vultures Junior and Wallace are nearby waiting for the coyotes to make the kill. To stop from getting eaten Hank decides to have the First Wolf Creek Decathlon, Hank wins and the coyotes can't eat him and they leave angrily. Hank then goes off and in the scrub he finds Benny who says that High Loper is stuck in quicksand. Benny then runs off.
