The street is about half a mile long and is tree lined and surrounded by large grandeous Victorian houses. Most (if not all) are divided up into low rent flats or bedsits. The grandeur of the street shows how it was once one of the city's most affluent districts. One of the reasons often cited towards Spencer Place's and Avenue Hill's declining popularity with prostitutes is the danger of trading in the area,
Holbeck is now considered a safer area.References
