The League of Spiritual Discovery was an alternative media empire based in
Baltimore, Maryland . The League ran a blog ( [http://www.baltimorewritersproject.com/blog The League: Reassembled] ) and a weekly radio program onWMUC . In addition artistic and humorous pieces, The League is known for its social and political commentary. The League was one of the few sources for reports, commentary and analysis on Baltimore City politics and policy and wrote extensively on state politics.The group and the affiliated 'The Baltimore Writer's Project' halted activity in 2007 following personal disputes.
History
The League was formed as a performance arts group in
2001 by three students atCalvert Hall College . After several performances at Baltimore-area high schools and churches, The League recorded its first full-length album in summer2003 . Two years later, [http://www.baltimorewritersproject.com/blog The League:Reassembled] was launched and soon followed by [http://www.wmucradio.com/stream_ripper/Thursday/The_League__Radio_Edit_900_1000.mp3 The League: Radio Edit] .Personal disputes led to a halt in activity in 2007.
The League: Reassembled
The League: Reassembled was the blog of The League of Spiritual Discovery and achieved relative popularity in Maryland political circles. The site was launched February 20, 2005 and was hosted by the [http://www.baltimorewritersproject.com Baltimore Writers Project] , a community literary arts organization in Baltimore run by several members of The League. On July 22, 2005, The League introduced a new URL at [http://www.leaguereassembled.net www.leaguereassembled.net] but continued to host the content with the Baltimore Writers Project.
Although it featured postings as varied as a passionate ode to a motorcycle and a rhyme about a suicidal monkey, The League: Reassembled is best-known for its commentary and analysis of city, state and national politics and policy. Most postings were cataloged within seven categories:
