The Unbound

The Unbound

The Unbound are a fictional group within the DC Comics Universe. They were involved in a story arc of Shadowpact which ran from issues 17-22.

History

They were created by a dark sorcerer as slaves and slave recruiters but quickly grew out of control and absorbed the sorcerer into their ranks. They felt the drive to spread and did so across many worlds and dimensions eventually coming to The Land of Nightshades where they ravaged Myrra. They created a device in an attempt to cross over to Earth but were defeated, and apparently wiped out, by the Shadowpact. The Enchantress, using qualities she took from Nightmaster created what she called an anti-virus. She implanted it into Nightmaster who traveled into a crowd of Unbound, briefly connected himself to them through their telepathic link, and spread the "anti-virus". This killed most of the Unbound, killing the Rest.

Powers and Abilities

The Unbound are created through the "Virus of an Idea" unleashed by a dark sorcerer to create a slave mass. It infects them with a feeling of "freedom from everything" except, supposedly, the master they were intended to serve. They are incapable of feeling pain but can feel pleasure and they seem to partake in cannibalism. They are mentioned as having a telepathic connection which may or may not be a hive-mind.

The so-called virus is spread through spoken word and as such, cannot be caught if one is deaf. In addition it can only be caught by adults, leaving only children to fight them off.
