Chopin specialistJozef Turczynski ,Zbigniew Drzewiecki , andAlfred Cortot at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. She was a First Prize winner at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1949 and shared this prize with another noted pianist,Bella Davidovich . Ms. Czerny-Stefanska made many recordings and was especially known for her performances ofChopin pieces including thePiano Concerto No. 1 in E minor .Ms. Czerny-Stefanska was a Juror in many piano competitions including the
Leeds International Pianoforte Competition , the Tchaikovsky International Competition, and theMarguerite Long -Jacques Thibaud Competition. She was also a Juror at theInternational Frederick Chopin Piano Competition for many years.Her daughter, with husband Ludwik Stefanski (1917-1982) is Elzbieta Stefanska-Lukowicz (b. 1943), a renowned harpsichordist and professor at the Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland.
Ms. Czerny-Stefanska died in Krakow on July 1, 2001.
