- Kompolt
The village with almost 2200 residents lays 17 kilometres from Füzesabony in
Heves county ,Hungary , towards the west, on the Gyöngyös even. It is situated at a distance of 2 kilometres both from road 3 and Budapest-Miskolc railway line. Kompolt also possesses a railway station on the branch line of Kál-Bátonyterenye. The transmission of the Highway M3 in 1998, which will bypass the settlement at a distance of 5 kilometres is considered to improve the village’s traffic conditions. Kompolt was also occupied by the Aba clan. At the end of the twelfth century, in its first written remark the colony was named Kompolth. László IV. permitted the setting up of a Benedictine monastery in 1280 which was then built but finally devastated in 1552. Several times Kompolt got depopulated The resident’s activity was mainly agricultural farming, within this especially production of folder crops andtobacco . The Plant Improvement Institute founded by Rudolf Fleischmann and also named after him is operating since 1918 and known in entire Europe. Novadays the farm still deals with plant improvement (Such as lucern,hemp andcereals ). Among the sight seeing spots, the formerGrassalkovich Castle in baroque style built in 1750 is worth looking at. A granary was additionally set up around the building in the year 1770. Its basement has quaders which were trimmed in the middle age and are covered with staved brick arches presumably built by he Benedictines. The neo romantic style catholich church with one tower was built in 1858. Both buildings are monuments, its tourism is insignificant.
