Genesis "Gennie" Walker (neé Pascoe) is a fictional character in the British soap opera "Emmerdale" played by Sian Reese-Williams. She made her first appearance on 1 April 2008.
Character creation and development
Gennie Walker was created by series producer Kathleen Beadles, although by the time her first episode aired on 1 April 2008, Anita Turner had taken over from Beadles. Theatre actress Sian Reese-Williams was cast in the role and started filming in the week beginning 3 March 2008. The character was described as "not your typical Dingle" and Turner said that "we’ve got some exciting storylines planned" with Gennie in "for a real culture shock when she meets her biological family".[cite news|url= http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/a90596/emmerdale-welcomes-genesis-dingle.html |title='Emmerdale' welcomes Genesis Dingle|first=Kris|last=Green|publisher=Digital Spy|date=3 March 2008] ]In an interview in May 2008, Anita Turner said that "the character [Gennie] could be brilliant and it's about her finding that inner Dingle". Turner said that Gennie has "really hidden depths – it’s more about her future in "Emmerdale", rather than her past".[cite news|url= http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/a96759/bonus-scoop-emmerdale-series-producer-anita-turner.html |title= Bonus Scoop: 'Emmerdale' Series Producer Anita Turner |first=Kris|last=Green|publisher=Digital Spy|date=27 May 2008] ]torylines
Genesis, normally known as Gennie, makes her first appearance in "Emmerdale" when she is injured when a car, driven by Ross Kirk, knocks her over on her moped. She had been on her way to the village to meet her biological father Shadrach Dingle for the first time. After the crash, Gennie becomes friends with Paddy Kirk, who was in the car with Ross, when he visits her at the hospital. In late April 2008, Paddy invites her to Eli Dingle’s birthday party, and while there she realises that Shadrach is her father. After initially running out of the house, Gennie and Shadrach talk. He tells how he had sought her following the cot death of his godson Daniel Thomas. Shadrach had planned to leave his wife for Gennie’s mother, Shirley Pascoe, but she died child birth, so he gave her up for adoption.
Gennie soon becomes close to her father and the Dingle family, although her half-sister Chas Dingle is initially resentful of her presence and the attention she is getting from Shadrach. Gennie tries to prove she is a true Dingle, and finally does so when she steals a client from Eric Pollard and makes money in the process. After growing close to Eli, they share a brief kiss, until he says he is not attracted to her, and she insists she is not attracted to him.
Soon, Gennie is living with the Dingles, something which deeply upsets her adoptive mother, Brenda Walker, who is also concerned about Gennie’s lack of job and her change in character. Chas convinces Brenda that Gennie is working at the vets, and for a short while she does work there. When going to a call out, she runs over and kills a sheep, and is then arrested with Eli for stealing the vet’s drugs, but is released when the locum vet Josh explains that she was taking the drugs to the farm. After this incident, her mother again tries to persuade her to come home, but Gennie refuses saying she feels she fits in at the Dingles. In August 2008, Gennie gets a job as a machinist at Eric Pollard’s factory, while Brenda gets a job at the village post office, which Gennie is not pleased with as it means Brenda will be visiting more often.
