Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) founded in 1882, is the UK's professional association for musicians. It protects the interests of musicians and providing legal advice to its members. Its 5,000 members include performers, teachers, composers, conductors and others involved in professional musical work.
In 1976 it established the Distinguished Musician Award to acknowledge outstanding contributions to British musical life. Recipients have included:
