Planalto is a municipality in Rio Grande do Sul, state of Brazil. It latitude is 27º19'44"S and a longitude 53º03'31"W, with the altitude of 568 meters. Its estimated population in 2004 was 11.702 inhabitants, and in 2007 was 10.589 inhabitants.

It has an area of 237,35 km². It is a city that relies on the waters of the Rio Honey and the Rio Uruguay river that has border with Argentina.

It is a city that is part of the Region of the Hidrominerais, is located within the perimeter of the Aqüifero Guarani, microregion of Frederico Westphalen (Middle High Uruguay).
