- Rakhaine
Rakhaines are a small aboriginal community of
Bangladesh . The Rakhaine community inhabiting in the coastal areas of Patuakhali, Borguna and Cox's Bazaar migrated to Bangladesh from Myanmer about two hundred years ago. With hard work, they turned the uncultivable deep forests of the coastal belt into a habitable area. The Rakhaines are a small Mongoloid who have many probelsm including tyranny by the mainstarem population. However, they are very being peace-lovingpeople and prefer not go for any protest or struggle. Unfortunately enough, some have left the country in search of security.The Rakhaines by Mustafa Majid
Mustafa Majid is an eminent researcher ofBangladesh who has intensively worked on the origin, life-style and social customs of the Rakhaines for over twenty years. His Ph. D. thesis has been published under the title "The Rakhaines". The book has seven chapters in which the author deals with theories of administration, identities of the Rakhaines and a chronicle of Patuakhali district, the anthropological identity of the Rakhaines, their land problems and the unsympathetic role played by the local administration in relation to their persistent problems. He suggested for planned governmental effort for their inclusion in the mainstream.Reference
