The Book of Jesse

The Book of Jesse is an online graphic novel and print comic written by Thomas Foster and Ron Morgan and illustrated by Takis Simon, first published in April 2004. It tells the story of Jesse Whitethorne, daughter of the President of the United States, and how one fateful night in Tokyo irrevocably changes the course of her life. Seized by cirrhosis of her liver, a life-saving transplant is clandestinely ordered by the President, and the aftermath will have wide-spread consequences for the entire planet. International intrigue, political chicanery, and surreal action figure largely in this bizarre coming of age story. It is available online.

Major characters

*Jesse Whitethorne, daughter of the President of the United States. Free-wheeling, hard-living twenty-two-year-old, living under the shadow of her father's notorious administration. An emergency liver transplant in Tokyo begins a surreal journey of a young girl in search of herself and her country's true spirit.
*Wade Pippen, Vice-President of the United States. Cruel overlord of the Executive Office, Pippen is the Majordomo for sinister and powerful forces around the globe. He also enjoys punk and thrash music, and some Mondays can be found at the "Axis of Metal" club in Washington D.C.
*James Jones, former agent for the NSA. Jones is embroiled in the President's clandestine operation to save his daughter's life and finds himself in a new, ultra-secret agency, safeguarding the interests of the Vice-President's cabal.
*Hershel Menkowitz. When the United States is plunged into martial law, Hershel, grad school punk, becomes a resistance leader among dissidents relocated to 'voluntary-progressive relocation camps' around the country.
*Xao No Fat, shadowy, ubiquitous figure whose affiliation is unknown. No Fat's father, it is revealed, was a legendary encryption master in a looming, world-wide plot.
