Shane Percy

Shane Percy is a Toronto, Canada based music journalist and club DJ.

He is best known as the promoter and DJ of Grapefruit [http://www.grapefruit4u.com] , a gay oriented dance night he created in 2002. Known for a strong focus on pop and retro music, his events have featured performances by various performers including Jackie Beat, Fritz Helder & The Phantoms the Wet Spots and Gavin Bradley's White Punks On Dope. In 2005, he was the opening DJ for the Scissor Sisters first Canadian appearance.

Grapefruit has won several awards in local polls as 'a Toronto institution' [ [http://gridskipper.com/56972/boys-flying-high-at-grapefruit] ] , and has been featured in Fab Magazine, Xtra, Now Magazine and Toronto Life [ [http://www.torontolife.com/features/pride-toronto-guide/] ] . It is currently the city's longest running gay dance night and features award-winning Toronto performance artist Donnarama. Through Grapefruit and related events, Percy has orchestrated several fundraisers for Canadian organizations including Casey House HIV/AIDS hospice and is an associate donor to the YouthLine [http://www.youthline.ca] , a support helpline for lesbian, gay, transgendered and questioning youth in Ontario.

Percy is a music journalist for Toronto's Xtra where his interview credentials include Vince Clarke, Goldfrapp, Cyndi Lauper and David Morales. In addition to maintaining a music blog [http://www.shanepercy.com] , he has made occasional appearances on MuchMoreMusic's Listed and "Uncovered" pop culture TV programs. His writing has also been featured in Fresh Magazine and Xtra West.
