Jacona (Jacona de Plancarte) is a small city and its surrounding municipality in northwestern
Michoacán ,Mexico . It is adjacent to the larger city of Zamora and is known for itsRoman Catholic seminary .Jacona is a Tecuexe (
Chichimeca ) word that comes from the original Xucunan, "place of flowers and vegetables". During the first centuries of the Spaniard domination, this name was written Xacona.The city had a population of 53,860 in the 2005 census and the municipality, which has an area of 118.14 km² (45.61 sq mi), had a population of 60,029. Jacona's population is mostly made up by Mestizo and some Pre-Hispanic people.
