- 1858 Hietsu earthquake
The Nihongo|Hietsu earthquake|飛越地震|Hietsu jishin took place on
April 9 ,1858 (according to the oldJapanese calendar ,Ansei 5-2-26). It occurred on the Atotsugawa Fault, which connectsMount Tate inToyama Prefecture and the Amō Pass inGifu Prefecture on the island ofHonshū inJapan . Its name includes onekanji from Nihongo|Hida|飛騨国 and one from Nihongo|Etchū|越中国, the names of the provinces that were in use at the time. The earthquake is estimated to have killed 200–300 people.
