Dan Hurwitz (born
January 30 ,1929 ) is an American author and professional engineer.He graduated from
Washington University ,St. Louis , in 1950 with aB.S. in Structural Engineering (science and engineering honor societies). He served as a reserve officer in theUS Navy aboard ship in theKorean War . During his tour of duty he received apatent on a specialized surveying transit and shortly after discharge was awarded a second patent on a celestial navigation drafting device.In 1970 he and his wife, Camilla, formed On-Line Data, Inc., a computer software shop offering a proprietary set of programs for manufacturers of wood building components. In 1995 the Hurwitzes and Dr. Phil Zwart, the company’s vice president, were awarded the Automated Builder Achievement in Housing Award.
Since his retirement from On-Line in 1996, Hurwitz has devoted his time to writing. His articles have appeared in "Liberty" Magazine, "The Independent Review", and the "World Future Society"’s website. In 2006, he published "
Stelzer's Travels , A Voyage to a Sensible Planet", a utopian novel.
