Ed Block Courage Award

The Ed Block Courage Award Foundation promotes the prevention of child abuse by raising awareness of the epidemic and assisting agencies who provide for the care and treatment of abused children in communities throughout the National Football League (NFL). That objective is coupled with the Foundation's commitment to celebrating players of inspiration in the NFL.

The Foundation raises public awareness and support child abuse prevention with over 100,000 radio public service announcements a year. Televised programs reach over 2 million viewers annually, and internet and print media spread the mission even further.

Ed Block Courage Award - Every year, each of the 32 teams in the National Football League (NFL) vote for one member of their team who, in the "eyes of his fellow teammates, is a source of inspiration and courage." Each March, the 32 players are honored at the Ed Block Courage Awards held in Baltimore, MD. Here, the player's receive their trophy award - a bronzed football helmet with their team's logo on one side, and the Foundation's logo on the other, atop a beautiful base, engraved with the player's name, team and year.

Today, the Ed Block Courage Awards event is heralded as one of the most prestigious in the NFL, and the Foundation has expanded its scope, recognition, and charitable efforts to a highly visible national level. Through the award and the event, the Foundation raises money and public awareness of the child abuse epidemic.

Another of the Foundation's goals, the creation of a national network through dedication of Courage Houses in NFL cities, is also well under way. On a nation-wide basis, the Foundation has formulated a Courage House National Support Network for Kids through the dedication of Courage Houses in 14 NFL cities.

Support for abused children under the Courage House concept has been established in, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Miami, Detroit, Dallas, Baltimore, New York, Oakland, Seattle, Carolina, Cleveland, Atlanta, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Buffalo and San Francisco.

The Foundation also sponsors the Baltimore Sports Media Hall of Fame Award and the Professional Football Athletic Training Staff of the Year Award.
