The album was much anticipated by Marcy Playground fans through a five-year wait after their
1999 album "Shapeshifter". The band's long awaited return came in early 2004 with "MP3", possibly meant as a double-entendre for the 3rd major release by a band whose abbreviated name could be "mp" and the uprise ofMP3 players at the time the album was released.To the dismay of many fans the album had no tour to support it and the album lacked any dominant singles, no singles entering any charts known of. The music in the album shows to be less grungey than their previous albums "Shapeshifter" and their self titled album, the latter spawning their one hit single
Sex and Candy .The album had three singles released, "Punk Rock Superstar", "Blood in Alphabet Soup" and "Deadly Handsome Man" which did not enjoy much mainstream success. The album was considered a flop by many people including
Allmusic .The album reached #111 on the
