Keinosuke Enoeda

Keinosuke Enoeda (1935-2003) was chief instructor of the KUGB [ [http://www.kugb.org/profiles/profiles_enoeda.html KUGB Profile] ] until his premature death due to cancer. Enoeda was ranked 8th dan in Shotokan karate and was world renowned as a formidable karate-ka. Following his death, Enoeda was posthumously awarded 9th dan.

After graduating from Takushoku University he studied at the JKA honbu dojo in Tokyo under Masatoshi Nakayama, the chief instructor. He won the JKA All Japan Championship in 1963. On 20 April 1965, following the JKA policy of sending it's instructors abroad to spread karate, he travelled to England with JKA instructors Shirai, Kanazawa and Kase [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibkTfKQZNqw YouTube - Keinosuke Enoeda - 1935-2003 ] ] . He began teaching in Liverpool.

* Enoeda appeared in a TV advertisement for Kung Phooey Crisps.
* Enoeda appeared in the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice.
* In 1973 he led a demonstration of karate on live television for the BBC. The demonstration included basic techniques, kata, Enoeda fighting multiple opponents, Enoeda against Tomita with a large blade, and the young Dave Hazard breaking a thick piece of Japanese hardwood.
