"Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But The Rent" is a controversial hit song recorded by late R&Brecording artist Gwen Guthrie, released as a single in 1986.
The song was controversial in that the woman in the song can be viewed as shallow and a "gold digger", since she will only love a man if he's rich and he has a job. The song has a lyrical interpolation from Billy Preston's 1974 hit, "Nothing from Nothing".
The song was a moderate hit on the US pop chart, reaching #42 on the "Billboard" Hot 100. It fared better on the US dance chart, where it spent two weeks at #1 on the "Billboard" Hot Dance Club Play chart in August 1986. [Whitburn, Joel (2004).
