Paper Covers Rock is a Chicago, Illinois based Alternative solo project. Frontman Jim Barakat let creating solo work consume his time since 2004 when his former band 3 Seconds To Short departed. With a vocal style that is compared to that of mewithoutYou, Paper Covers Rock takes the solo project label to a new level. With digital drums, synthesized bass guitar and various other perks, Paper Covers Rock is able to put on a live show that eclipses the sound created in the studio. Currently Paper Covers Rock is managed by Barmar Records.

History

The band was originally conceived as a side project, but after a few successful demos, Jim Barakat decided to make Paper Covers Rock his main musical priority. After releasing two works in 2004, the (Homeward Bound EP) & (Immune To Your Bullshit), and one work in early 2005, (The Receiving End of Your Voice), Jim Barakat went on a musical hiatus thereafter. Nearly three years in the making, in the summer of 2007 Paper Covers Rock completed their 2nd full length album (The Will That Was...). In light of current events in Jim's life at the time, he was unable to tour in support of (The Will That Was...). In 2008, a demo "She Ain't Anything Close" was streamed on the internet with an announcement of it being the first of four demo's for Paper Covers Rock's upcoming 2008 web-release (Fiction Now). It was also confirmed that Jim was organizing a full band for the next release but due to a lack of resources, "Fiction Now" was recorded entirely acoustic between June 30th, 2008 and July 3rd 2008 at The Warehouse in Hickory Hills, Illinois. One month later, Jim released electronic remixes of his old electronic songs online titled "The Classics."
