Stuart Liddell

Stuart Liddell is a Scottish bagpipe player. Born in Inveraray, he is one of the most recognized names in piping, and one of the top competitive solo players in the world today.

Band History

Although he lives in Inveraray, Scotland, Stuart plays with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band in Burnaby, British Columbia [ [http://www.sfupipeband.com/html/members.html SFUPB Members] ] . While he has played with them, the band has won two World Pipe Band Championship titles. Before joining Simon Fraser, Stuart played with Scottish Power Pipe Band. He is also founder and Pipe Major of the hugely successfull juvenile Inveraray Pipe Band.

Stuart has won many of the top awards in solo piping, including the Gold Medal at the Argyllshire Gathering (2000), the Gold Medal at the Northern Meeting (2004) [ [http://bagpipejourney.com/articles/gold-medal.shtml Gold Medal Winners] ] , and the former winner's Clasp at the Northern Meeting (2007) [ [http://piping.northern-meeting.org/winners.shtml Northern Meeting Winners] ] . Although he is known for his fast and flashy playing with innovative arrangements of standard piping tunes, his impressive collection of prizes demonstrate that he is also well-versed in traditional playing styles.

Recordings

In 2007, Stuart released his first solo recording, Inveroran. He has also appeared on several recordings of Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, with solo tracks on many discs.
