Marzyeh Ghassemi Born June 29, 1985 Fields Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics Alma mater New Mexico State University Notable awards 2008 Marshal Scholar Marzyeh Ghassemi is a New Mexico State University (NMSU) alumna most noted for her honor as British Marshall Scholar in 2008.[1]
After being home-schooled by her mother throughout her entire primary and secondary education, Ghassemi entered college at the age of 15. She graduated from New Mexico State University in 2005, at the age of 20, with degrees in electrical engineering, computer science, and mathematics. During her stay at NMSU, she was named the NMSU Engineering Outstanding Junior of the Year in the fall of 2003 and NMSU Engineering and Arts and Sciences Outstanding Senior of the Year in the fall of 2005. [2] Then in 2006 she was named to the USA Today Second All-American Team.[3]
Intel hired Marzyeh in 2006 into their Rotational Engineers Program, and soon after she was moved to the position of Market Development Manager for the Emerging Market Platforms Group in 2007.
In 2008 Ghassemi was named a British Marshall Scholar. The Marshall Scholarship is one of the most prestigious offered and is on par with the Rhodes Scholarship. Out of a pool of 958 applicants, Marzeyh and 43 others where given this honorable distinction.
Marzyeh used the award to study at University of Oxford’s Life Sciences Interface Doctoral Training Centre for an MSc. She is currently pursuing a PhD at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab.
