The 2008 Caribbean Championship finals will be held in Jamaica from 1st-17th December 2008. The four semifinalists will qualify for the 2009 edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.cite web |url=http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.aspx?id=4261 |title= Caribbean Qualification to 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup™ begins in Netherlands Antilles |publisher=CONCACAF | date= 2008-07-22 |accessdate= 2008-07-31] Qualifying will begin in July/August 2008. The qualifying rounds will be used to qualify a total of 6 teams to the finals tournament (hosts Jamaica and holders Haiti are given direct entry to the finals). The name was changed this year from Digicel Caribbean Cup to Digicel Caribbean Championship. Group Stage One

Format

The five group winners along with the four best second-place teams will be placed into three groups hosted by Guadeloupe, Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago from 11 October - 9 November.

Teams that did not enter

Nine CFU teams did not enter, meaning 4 fewer participants than in the Caribbean Nations Cup 2006-07 edition (This became 2 fewer participants, when 2 further teams withdrew "during" the 2006-07 tournament). Two teams withdrew before the tournament began (fb|French Guiana and fb|Sint Maarten), and the 7 other teams listed below participated only in World Cup Qualification):1. fb|BAH

Note: Matches originally scheduled for August 29th were pushed back until August 30th due to Hurricane Gustav.
