Cofgodas

Cofgodas

"Cofgodas" ("cove gods") were Anglo-Saxon household gods related to the German kobolds and equivalent to the Roman "penates". [Dowden 229.] It is generally accepted that the English hob and Scottish brownie are the modern survival of the "cofgod". ["Cove-Gods", "An Other Dictionary".]
