Brian Jones is an American clarinetist who has been a faculty member of George Mason University since 2000. Jones came to the Washington, DC area in 1992 to serve the United States Air Force Band as a clarinetist for seven years.

Education

He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University. His Stravinsky chamber recital won him the school's "Robert J. Mautz Award" for recital of the year. He furthered his studies at Baylor University in Waco, Taxas where he earned his Masters Degree in Clarinet Performance. He performed with the Waco Symphony Orchestra and the Austin Chamber Society. In 1999, he received his Doctor of Musical Arts from The Catholic University of America. He was a member of the AshLawn Highland Opera Orchestra and performed throughout Germany, Austria, and Italy in addition of playing the clarinet for the AIMS Orchestra in Graz, Austria.

Appearances and Awards

Jones is an active clarinetist in the Nation Capital Region. In 1993, he was invited by the Honorable Sandra Day O'Connor to perform Leonard Bernstein's "Sonata for Clarinet" in a recital at the Supreme Court to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the birth of the composer.Fact|date=March 2008 In 2001, he won the Montpelier Cultural Center Recital Competition.Fact|date=March 2008 He has appeared as a soloist with local ensembles such as the United States Air Force Band and the Capital Wind Symphony. He travels and has played with various ensembles throughout the United States.

Teaching

He has served as a Lecturer of Clarinet at Catholic University. He has also served as Instructor of Clarinet at the Levine School of Music which is one of the largest and most progressive community schools in the world.
