Abram W. Harris

Abram W. Harris

Abram W. Harris (1858-1935) was the eighth president of Northwestern University, serving from 1906 to 1916.

A graduate of Wesleyan University, Harris came to Northwestern after a time at Maine State College, which he transformed into a university. This was part of the reason why he was hired at Northwestern.

At Northwestern, he developed the School of Commerce in 1908, which was an enormous success from the start. He retired from the university after 10 years to take a position with the Methodist Episcopal Church in New York.
